Mariah Blackhorse

this silence

this silence is burgundy brocade on grey castle walls

crimson drops spread in still water, dissipating like red smoke

this silence is a siphon, draining sight and sound and will

the spirit has moved on, but the body remembers

         the body hungers

this silence is a wizened apple on a December tree

         red against the winter landscape

                  barren even in its brightness
