Chocolate Meditation

When the slanting late summer light of  September days

quiver the  knowing

that the long cold is moving towards us and

Dark Chocolate Velvet ‘with a delicate touch of milk’

seduces  with its Fair Trade Bolivian virtue

and promise of solace.

Take time to find a spot

where  sunlight still  pools.

Open the wrapper slowly

undressing brown warmth.

Liberate a  square from

its  row

and  introduce it to the

flesh of your hand.

Watch it  shift

as it awakens to its true purpose

that has whirled here

from cacao trees in Amazonian jungles

and crossed continents  to

meld its story to yours.

Let your tongue  rise

 to meet the creamy darkness.

Let flavours flood.

Allow moans to sing the melting.

Merge with equatorial heat and tropical rains.

Become the scarlet macaw sliding through your leafy tree tops.

the brown hands that cut Brazilian sugar cane.

the cow eating vivid greens  whose milk

travelled from its Andean farm to live in your mouth.

Let solid transmute to

syrup that slides

down your throat,

oozes across  membranes

and pours poetry

deep into cells

that fuel your

bittersweet now.
